HISTORY:

Atticus was born to a loving mother, Amelia, in Rainy Pass. From as early as he can remember he never had a father figure in his life. Though this will have a profound effect on some children, it never really bothered Atticus. He had a mother who loved him dearly and that was all he had ever needed as a kid. He had no siblings, as his mother could barely afford to keep Atticus but he never minded that either.

Despite Amelia’s obvious lack of wealth, she put everything she could into keeping Atticus happy and spoiled him as often as she could. Atticus was not terribly old when he began to realize all that his mother did for him and he was always extremely grateful for what she did do and never asked for much. His most treasured possession is a compass his mother picked up one day from an antique store and strung it around his neck. She told him that with that compass he could always find his way home and always have adventures in his life. He spent most of his days at school while his mother worked late into the evening so she could take care of him. Atticus always felt horrible that he never seemed to have a way to help her out around the house, except for chores.

As Atticus grew older he learned to read and write and do other basic tasks most children learn how to do from his school. He didn’t have many toys to play with like the other kids so he would spend his days with paper and a pencil, writing away and practicing his literary skills. He had no specific topic that he would write about and would often present his mother with poems about her or short stories for her to read and approve of. More often than not Atticus could be found asleep on a pile of papers when his mother came home from work.

By the time Atticus was 16, he began to go to work for the local library after school, at first without mentioning it to Amelia. It was the only job he could find that he qualified for and could get home before his mother still. His charade did not stay up very long when he began to offer to help pay bills and would bring her home small gifts as well. She allowed him to keep his job and he worked at the library until the day he graduated and even after that for a few years. He always looked forward to going to the library because he got to spend so much time helping people with books and could check out as many as he wanted to read.

Atticus never gave up his passion for writing and reading and used any spare time he could find pouring over his work. He went to college for a semester before he had to drop out from the expenses and went back to live with his mother. She let it stay that way until his 23rd birthday. Taking his old compass, which he still wore around his neck, in her paws she told him that it was time he had his own adventures and quit worrying over her. She smiled at him as he protested and told him she would not take no for an answer. Atticus flung his arms around her and hugged her tightly, promising he would write her frequently and secretly promised to keep sending her any spare cash to help pay the bills.

Since that time he has been searching for a place to live where he could get a decent house to do his writings in and maybe find another library to work in. He’s starting to finally take steps towards having his own adventures and living out his own dreams. Though he may be nervous about leaving his mother alone, he was hopeful about his new goal in life.

PERSONALITY:

Atticus is a little shy when it comes to meeting new people. He’s had other people be scared of him because of his tough appearance but really he is a very laid back and friendly sort of fellow. He tends to seem a little standoffish when he first meets people because he is often found with his nose in his writings or is a little nervous about going up to meet people.

Despite his initial shyness, Atticus has a heart of gold and loves to make friends after that initial awkwardness. Being a Houndour, the concept of working together has been ingrained in his mind from a young age and he is always willing to lend a helping paw to those who need it. Atticus can have a point of being to helpful sometimes, to the point that he doesn’t think of himself and winds up either exhausting himself or taking on more than he can chew. He is generally very friendly and it is unusual to find him in a foul mood. When he is in a bad mood though, it's best to stand back as he can look a bit frightening and have a tendency to snap at those who irritate him, though he generally feels bad afterwards.

When Atticus doesn’t have his nose shoved in a book or a pile of papers, he can be found outside exploring. He loves doing outdoorsy activities and sports. Fishing, bug catching, hiking, nature walks, you name it and he is game. The only time he gets hesitant to come outside is when it’s cold or raining, as he is not a big fan of watery precipitation. Swimming is also not big on his list of things to do but he will do it if it is to make a friend happy. He is extremely curious about just about everything he comes into contact with and will often refer to books to try and figure out what something is. His curiosity can often find him in a predicament as he doesn't know when to let it go and leave some things to mystery.

He also has a habit of collecting many different things as well. He loves to collect different leaves or fabrics or anything else that can interest him. Usually these aren’t big things though as he still does spend most of his money on other people and doesn’t often buy big things for himself.

Atticus is quite outgoing when he’s around people he is familiar with though, and is often found wanting to spend time with any friends he makes. He may often be found alone with his writings but he will never pass up an opportunity to spend time with his friends or family.
